Coptic Binding Buzz

Another self-taught skill for 2007. I've been admiring the beautiful handmade books from Paperiaarre and have always wanted to have a go. I thought I'd start with some new sketchbooks for myself. The instructions I found on the internet were pretty hopeless and most said the coptic binding was hard to explain but easier to do, and they were right, following a video on YouTube I sort of worked it out. And after a change of mind about equipment, I think the results aren't bad. Too bad I'm a bit late to do Christmas presents for everyone!! This is my first attempt, very loose and lots of tears...

My second attempt was tighter and I managed not to tear any pages...right until the last one!

And tonight, my third attempt, proper waxed linen thread, and a decent needle, helped no end! A little screenprint on top and viola... one pretty handmade sketchbook!

Goodbye Hannah, Hello Peekabo

Hannah (colleague and friend) left the department today so I made her Peekabo (so named because his ears fold all the way in to hide his cheeky face, then pop back out again). Only five more working days till the Christmas break. Then two and a half glorious weeks of freedom! I can't wait for all the things I am going to get up to. Most especially looking forward to going home for Christmas. Hope Shane can handle it!

Poodle Pie

Was beginning to get a little depressed by all the black in my wardrobe so I picked out this bright cherry top yesterday and with a little screenprinting magic, a poodle appeared. I changed the button at the top to black and now it looks like he is staring at a ball! Much brighter and a little festive too!

I got elfed!!

These are possibly the funniest things ever. The first is my co-workers and myself and the second is my family. Third is Shane and me (plus Mel). So good. Best Christmas website ever!!

Peggy Christmas

I found these really cute little wooden pegs yesterday and couldn't wait to get home to use them. I stamped the letters onto little squares of coloured craft paper and them pegged the squares to embroidery floss which I had pinned to the wall. Whole thing took less then 20 minutes and looks really great next to the Christmas tree.

Nut and Bee

My stash from Nut and Bee arrived yesterday. I love them so much, very cute and graphic. Annette was really friendly and I am very pleased. I don't want to give them away for Christmas now!

Christmas Dreams

The first of December and I spent the day decorating the living room for Christmas. It looks beautiful and magical. This little vignette sits on the mantel and looks lovely both by night and by day... dreamy, my dreams of a fantastic Christmas and and great New Year.
