Finally, a spring day to be proud of.

Today the sun is shining and the breeze is light. I feel better, brighter. I took a stroll across the road and took some photos under the grove of trees. I love the colour of the light shining through the leaves. It is the exact colour of spring.

Today is the last day of Blogtoberfest. I have made it, I have posted at least once, everyday. It wasn't always profound or enlightening. But it was fun. I don't think I'll end up continuing to blog everyday but I'm pretty sure it will be a lot more regularly then I did before. See you in November!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is not such a huge event in this household, what with having no children and a partner who refuses to dress up! But in recognition of the occasion I baked some yummy, spooky cupcakes!

I hope you have a great night, wherever you are! BOO!

Hope

I'm hoping for a sunny day, some laughter, a peaceful weekend, less anger, more productivity, some fun, big smiles, handholding, successful operations, healthy family and friends, safe returns, fond farewells, and some calm and perspective.

What are you hoping for today?

Fun Day Monday

This was definitely the best Monday I've had for a while. Slept late, had yummy lunch, made cushions, more errands, new paper, dolls, yummy tea and smooching on the couch. Heading to bed soon for an early night. Can't wait for this lovely short week. Hope your weekend was great too.

Road Trip

Yesterday we took a trip up the coast to Timaru to see mum and grandad. The weather was glorious, the company was pretty darn good and the music was blasting. It was a magical day.

Once we got home the sun was starting to fade so we grabbed some yummy Japanese food for tea and headed home to watch Nurse Jackie. It was an awesome first day of a long weekend.

Today feels much the same. We've been out doing errands, went for a drive to the lookout and lounged in the sun for a while. Home for bacon sandwiches and now I am catching up on washing and dishes. Even the chores don't seem as bad when the sun is shining!

I did it...

I made it though the week. I finished everything. I am awesome. They should pay me a LOT more. Now I'm off to enjoy the weekend! Hope you do too.

Be someone new today...

This photo is exactly how I felt this morning. I am trying to make it though today because I have a delicious, long, hopefully sunny weekend tomorrow. An extra long three day weekend. The first one in 146 days. It has been a very long winter. I'm hoping the weather will play along nicely this weekend. We have plans for a day trip up the coast to see mum and grandad, then two days of lounging about enjoying the sun. Have a great weekend!

Photo Source (I adore her photos!)

I am Loving!

Ingrid Michaelson's new album, Everybody. I might love it more than the other two I have, Girls and Boys, and Be OK. Can't stop listening to it. This music is the only reason I have made it this far this week! And I LOVE her glasses. Where can I get some of those?

Cupcakes make people happy.

So true. What makes me cry is that they are no longer shipping these internationally. Which means I can't get it. Sigh. I almost died when I saw it. Then died a little more when I realised I will never have it! If you live in the US, go here now and get it. You can send it to me if you want~!

Is it sunny where you are?

It isn't here. Squalid and wet again. Not a great start to the week. I'm not sure why I struggle so much when the weather is bad but I do. Terribly. I feel downright awful.

If I could be anywhere else right now I would be curled up in my nice warm bad with a book and a hot choc.

Or stretched out on the beach at Surfer's Paradise with a book and a cold drink.
The photo above is from our first trip to the Gold Coast. What a magical holiday. Everything was perfect. We've tried to recapture that holiday a couple of times but nothing comes close.

I would love to go on another holiday right now. My (lucky) sister just left for Melbourne today. I am green with envy. Instead, I am here. Sitting at my desk, in front of my computer, in my fluorescent lit office, listening to the rain outside and working on financial tables for the Annual Report. Sigh.

Finally, I conquered the blog

After (many) frustrating hours trying to work out code, I have managed to redesign my blog!
I'm stoked I finally worked out how to get everything how I want it. Enjoy!

Look, no black!

I got some really great (and cheap) cotton plaid fabrics on Friday night so I spent a couple of hours today sewing. I managed to make a couple of new tops with ideas for another.

I adapted a dress pattern and made a top instead, slightly fitted but really comfy. I made a little bow (detachable) as well.

I also made another little singlet top. These add so much colour to my wardrobe, they look great with all my cardigans and are going to be a godsend in the office during summer!

Stunning...

Valeria H's photos are breathtaking. Have a look at them all here, or buy prints here.

New fabric from Ink & Spindle

I finally managed to buy some Birch fabric in Charcoal (before it sold out again!) from Ink & Spindle. I haven't decided exactly what I am going to make but I am pretty sure it is going to be a new bag. Can't wait for it to get here. I've loved this fabric since I first saw it.

Love this! Absolut does it again. Reminds me of Stefan Sagmeisters work.

Thanks to my sister Tracy for running round like a maniac ~ and not caring when people were staring!

Time to clean up.

(OMG Not even halfway...

...and I've already run out of stuff to blog about! I think my blogging ability has a direct correlation to the amount of sunshine I see. Today none, so nothing to blog. This is the best I have so here we go...)

Since I was feeling a little grey today I went out at lunchtime and spent my way though the dullness. Instead of buying colourful things to cheer myself up all I bought was more GREY! Black pants, grey pants, grey cardi and a grey feather headband. I did make up for it by buying a totally hot pink lippy!

LaraLewis makes the prettiest things. I adore these, trying to decide which one I should buy...

You shold go and see which pretty things you want. Christmas is coming up pretty soon...

A good start to the morning.

I love getting fun mail, especially before I go to work in the morning. These really cute tapes are from MissMacau. I LOVE them so much. Can't wait to use them! Go check it out.

How I know there is nothing wrong with you or me.

I really hate crying at work but this has definitly bought a tear to my eye. I'm going to print it out and keep it somewhere handy.
  1. You’re playing the game of life as best you know how, and trying to get better every day. You can’t possibly do someone else’s best, so there’s no point in stressing about it.
  2. You make mistakes like everyone else, which allows you to learn as you go. That means you’re doing what you should be.
  3. You’re unique, whether you’re introverted or outgoing, book smart or street smart, creative or technical—the list goes on and on. You’re the world’s only opportunity to know a person just like you. The only hope to share what only you can.
  4. There’s no such thing as the way you should be. If you do what you enjoy and don’t harm other people, you’re living a beautiful life.
  5. You will never become someone—you are someone right now, whether you influence millions of people or mean the world to just one person. Your impact is powerful, whether you realize it or not.
  6. If someone hurts you, you don’t deserve it. No one does. End of conversation.
  7. You feel emotions and respond to them. That’s the way this whole humanity things works. If you could stand to improve the way you respond, newsflash: you’re still like everybody else.
  8. You have a pulse right now, and it’s your choice what you do with it. There’s no right or wrong answer. (Unless what you want is to maim a puppy or something equally perverse.)
  9. You choose what you think is best, or else you wouldn’t choose it. As you get new information and grow stronger and smarter, you’ll make different choices.
  10. You are beautiful, inside and out.

Sunday Afternoon

Not a lot to say today, I'm feeling a bit under the weather. I'm going to finish up reading Breaking Dawn while eatng raisin toast. I'll be back tomorrow!

Addicted...

...to books that is. I can't seem to get enough. I have these on order at the moment and can't wait for them to get here!

I swear I don't chose books based on colour, it just happened that way! I was inspired after watching the movie Helvetica. Plus Shane was out for the night and I always end up buying things when left alone at night!

Finished!

I finally finished my Heidi dress. It is a tiny bit tight in places (but after winter what was I expecting!) so it might have to wait a month or so before I actually wear it!

Always filled with "Good Intentions"

I've been full of good intentions lately but illness, laziness and yucky weather have had me in a bit of a slump. I fully intend to do these things soon:

  • Design and produce my first zine
  • Learn a bit of coding and redesign my blog
  • Finally finish making my dress
  • Continue re-rooting my Blythe scalp (she looks very bald at the moment!)

Hopefully this weekend will see some things getting crossed off the list!

Am I the only one who's insane?

Still here in this quiet room
Deep in delusion sending me over
Outside watch the world go by
Inside time stands still as i wonder

Lyrics: LadyHawke

Have you ever felt this way?

Have you ever wished for an endless night?
Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight
Have you ever held your breathe and asked yourself

will it ever get better than tonight?

A Simple Paper Bunting Tutorial

I'm sure I'm not the first one to make a bunting or to make a tutorial about making buntings but I am a little under the weather today and decided to brighten the room up a little. And I thought I'd show you how I did it.

You will need:
  • Patterned papers (as many or as little as you like)
  • Old cardboard
  • Pencil
  • Something to cut with
  • A sewing machine or needle and thread
STEP ONE:
Make a template for the triangles with your old cardboard. They can be any size and shape you want. In fact, who said they have to be triangles!

STEP TWO:
Trace your template onto the back of your patterned papers, as many times as you think you need (it will depend on how long you want your bunting to be).

STEP THREE:
Cut out all you little triangles.

STEP FOUR:
Start sewing along the top of your first triangle, leave a few stitches at the end of the first one before joining your second one.

STEP FIVE:

Continue until you have sewn all your little triangles.

STEP SIX:

Trim the threads and hang. Voila.

Of course you don't have to use paper. Try the same technique with fabric, felt, painted canvas, leaves, fabric flowers. And try different shapes too, endless possibilities.

I made a smaller version of little felt circles. I didn't use a template, just freehand cut different sized circles.

Have a bright and cheerful day!

Making the "Heidi" dress..

Started making the Heidi dress, by Burda. Grey shantung and a red floral pattern lining. Didn't quite get it finished but hopefully I'll have some time to drag out the sewing machine this week.
