Around Here :: Goodbye Tree

Last week we had a troublesome tree removed from our backyard. What a difference it makes! And now I don't have to worry about it blowing over every time we have a storm! We also have a pretty enormous stack of firewood for the next couple of years. Bonus!

Before & After :: Garden

After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, the garden is finally done. Well, it still has a lot of growing to do but the hard work is over. I'm so happy with it, now all I need is a bit of sunshine and a couple of chairs so I can enjoy the fruits of my labour!

Before

Today is the start. We are going to build a garden.

I have plants...

And mulch...

And this to start with...

I also have 3 days of forecast torrential rain and gail-force winds. But with any luck, I'll be back with after photos in a few days!

That to this

Another project crossed off the to-do list, I made these planters from old oil drums. They were already this bright red colour, all I had to do was cut them down to size and fill them with pretty spring flowers.

Twinkle, twinkle

Another part of the "Make the deck pretty" plan involved the use of lights. Solar powered twinkle lights to be exact.

I love these so much. They were so simple to put up and make such a difference.

They are the prettiest white/blue shade and create a little roof of lights.

Can't wait until the weather is warm enough to enjoy being under them at night but for now I'm enjoying them through the windows.

Hope your weekend was sparkly too.

My garden makeover begins

Although I don't think I'll be doing much in the garden this weekend due to the pouring rain (hello spring showers), last weekend I got out there with my mum and started giving the garden a bit of a spruce up.

We shifted a huge empty planter into the sunniest spot in the yard and planted lots of yummy strawberries. Last year I had quite a few but mostly the birds got them first so this year I'll have to be extra vigilent.

We also continued on with my "Make the deck pretty" plan by getting this beautiful blue pot and planting this sweet little hydrangea.

Then it started raining and we came inside. But its a start.
